2.5D is a cheeky shorthand that implies an in-between state that separates flat and volumetric forms, rigid abstractions and various modes of explicit meaning. A fractional dimension illustrates how the work reaches out from its flat space limit, but never actually gets to the world of the next exponent. The attempt is never fully actualized, because the partial dimension traps the energy and form in a stasis of becoming. In exchange, a complex world of intention is revealed, like mutant offspring, that though they can’t live fully in this world, give tantalizing clues to what could be—the myriad options of becoming that teem beneath the dimensional surface, just waiting for the inevitable moments to express themselves.
